5. Pegg and Frost: Role Reversal
With the first two films, there was a clear dynamic between our lead twosome. Simon Pegg is the more straight-laced of the pair (in Hot Fuzz he seems to have permanently misplaced his sense of humour) and Nick Frost is the overgrown man-child with questionable morals as well as hygiene. But we see here that Pegg is the goth type desperately trying to cling on to his youth and dragging all his now-very-grown-up mates down with him. And his first port of call? A suited, booted and successful Nick Frost. I found this perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer. It seems rare to me that a well known comedy duo have ever swapped places in terms of one being the straight man and the other being the funny guy. It certainly shows that both of these guys are more than capable of filling the other's shoes, and should have brilliant comic potential. Pegg looks so dirty throughout the entire thing it seems a million miles away from Nicholas Angel and Sandford. And Frost gets to show us a new side to his already impressive reel. Maybe afterwards we'll all agree that the chemistry of the pair works best with Pegg in the straight man role, but that remains to be seen. These two have set themselves a challenge, and judging by the 90 seconds we've seen so far, they don't look set to fail.
