7. The Thor/Jane/Sif Love Triangle
Oh, Thor: did you really have to fall in love with a mortal when you have a perfectly good (and totally hot) Asgardian warrioress right in front of you? Hm... is it because she's called Sif? That name is off-putting, I guess. Thor: The Dark World makes a point of reiterating the fact that there's a lovely lady who would shack up with Thor at a moment's notice if only he could get past the whole Jane Foster thing. Even Odin, Thor's father, alludes to the fact that he should make a go of it with Sif at one point in this movie. And Sif, respectable as she is, couldn't be more obvious with regards to her intentions: she's into Thor big-time. This whole "mess" (if you could even call it that) is addressed frequently in the first half of the movie, firstly with Sif offering to get drunk with Thor during the celebration party of a successful battle (he refuses), and then with Jane giving Sif a jealous glance when she arrives in Asgard, as if to say: "girl, I know what you're up to, and I don't like it." All this amounts to a narrative thread that gets nowhere enough screentime and is then just forgotten about once the action starts. There's no mention of Sif's feelings again, which begs the question... what's the point in exploring all this over the sum of two movies if the whole idea is just discarded on a whim?
