Thor: Love & Thunder Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. Christian Bale Is Terrific As Gorr

Marvel fans rejoiced the moment that Christian Bale was cast as Gorr the God Butcher, given his penchant for committing incredibly hard to just about every role he's ever played.

And that's certainly true here, for while Gorr gets a disappointingly scant amount of screen time, Bale gives a frequently unnerving turn as the god-murderer.

Making the most of Gorr's intriguing, unexpectedly sympathetic motivations, Bale has terrific screen presence throughout but is also unafraid to dig into the character's more creepily playful and eccentric tendencies.

The makeup, of course, sells a lot of Bale's transformation, but his sheer physicality does just as much heavy lifting. Gorr isn't a top-tier MCU villain by any means, but with a stronger script he probably could've been.

As it stands, Bale does about as much with the part as anyone could, again confirming his incredible versatility across film genres.
