12. Heimdall

Despite the fact that it looked suspiciously like Heimdall was going to die in the first 20 seconds of the movie - finally ending Idris Elba's unpleasant association with the character (at least in his own terms) - he's a fairly key element in the Asgard-set story in Ragnarok.

He's undergone an almost complete change from his first two appearances, casting off his job, his costume and his commitment to the Asgardian leadership, and it's an interesting development for him.

It's just a shame that the denseness of the plot means that there's very little space to see enough of his sub-plot to really grab interest in a satisfying way. He's mostly limited to being a charismatic plot device who drifts in when he's needed and it would have been nicer to see his sort of Strider from Lord Of The Rings spirit had been developed a bit more.
