Tim Roth: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances...
5. Ringo (Pumpkin) - Pulp Fiction (1994)
Granted, Tim Roth doesn't appear in Pulp Fiction for all that long, but he plays a pivotal character none the less - just because he's only on screen for 15 minutes or so doesn't mean we should underestimated the importance of his performance here. So as Ringo (nickname: Pumpkin), a lowly thief who spends his days robbing liquor stores, Roth is downright excellent, something which is exemplified by his chemistry with Amanda Plumber, who stars here as his unstable girlfriend and co-conspirator, Honey Bunny, and later on with Samuel L. Jackson's Jules. Roth "technically" only has one scene in the movie, which takes place at a Los Angeles diner, but we revisit the location a number of times, albeit from different perspectives, as Tarantino plays around with the narrative framework of his picture. Indeed, it's Roth's voice that kicks Pulp Fiction into gear, as Ringo opens up a discussion about his line of work ("No, forget it - it's too risky. I'm through doin' that sh*t!"). The resulting dialogue segment is classic Tarantino, of course, but the reason it sounds so good is because Tim Roth totally nails it.
