9. Meet Barry Allen - Catch Me If You Can
Starring in Spielberg's film, Tom Hanks plays the role of FBI agent Carl Henratty in Catch Me If You Can, this time alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as con-artist Frank Abagnale. Though he's not the main star of the show, Hanks puts in a fantastic performance as he chases his culprit from con after con, moving deeper into Frank's past. Plus, the film turned out a commercial as well as a critical success he does pick those movies well. Keeping us on our toes is the main part of a cat-and-mouse chase story, and Catch Me If You Can delivers just that. Playing in an authority role once again, Hanks provides us with many memorable moments throughout the film. However, a particular scene that shines through is where Frank dupes Carl into believing he's a US secret service agent named Barry Allen. At first, Carl is dubious, but as Frank's lies become more believable he begins to soften his approach. Hanks even uses this moment to fiddle with Frank's wallet, trying one-handed to put it in his top coat pocket, creating a down-to-earth image of the character. Later when Frank leaves, Carl sits down on the bed and, grinning to himself, he decides to take a look at the wallet. The penny drops and Carl tosses the wallet to the floor, frustrated at his own naivety. It's Hanks' approach that makes this scene come off a little silly, yet oddly charming, giving us the view that regular guys in big roles make mistakes too.
