Tom Hardy: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

2. Theo - Minotaur

If you haven't seen Minotaur, don't. The worst of Tom Hardy's early movies, it's shoddily produced and shows a side of the actor that he probably wouldn't want you to see (and that's saying something after he seemed blasé about those MySpace photos). The idea is a retooling of the Theseus and the Minotaur myth, altered because apparently Jonathan English (who inexplicably still has a career making grimy medieval movies) thought he could improve on a story that had stood strong for three millennium. Just so we're clear on this, he can't. Quite why the film isn't better known for its shocking awfulness, particularly given Hardy's subsequent successes, is unclear - perhaps the fact it's trying to be a horror means it just gets trampled underfoot. Hardy himself is a different man here, nothing but blank stares and vain disinterest as his Theo (can't have Theseus, oh no) takes on a deadly mythical beast as if it's a rather light drizzle. Probably best this one stays buried actually.
