Almost as if conceived to satiate the sudden rise in Hardy mania, the actor's latest film sees him play not one, but two lead roles. Legend would have been a fine British crime drama by itself, but with Hardy at the helm it becomes something more. While some of the praise must got to Brian Helgeland for his creative workarounds to allow him to play both Kray twins, that it's pulled off so flawlessly is most certainly down to the actor. Individually each Kray is a solid performance, with Reg offering a charming-but-scary leading man and Ron allowing Hardy to stretch his character actor muscles, but it's when they're put together that the dual leads become awesome. As I pointed out in my review, it gets to the point where you forget they're not really two different people; the nuances are so clear and the interaction is that natural. Hardy doesn't just play the Krays - he is them. That's always what an actor always aims to do, of course, but to do it with two parts in the same movie is a mighty fine feat.
