Tomb Raider Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

1. The Ridiculous Sequel-Bait Ending

It's not really a spoiler to state the obvious, that the movie ends on the sequence shown in the trailers, where a ponytail-clad Lara picks out two HK pistols for her next adventure.

However, what the trailers didn't spoil is the hilarious, out-of-nowhere plot twist that's thrown in right at the end of the movie, a sudden reveal about a seemingly minor supporting character which has a huge impact on the plot. Before we're able to soak it in, though, the movie quickly ends, betting all its chips on a sequel to explore the issue further.

It of course remains to be seen whether or not the movie will do well enough to get a follow-up, but this last-minute revelation was sequel bait at its most absurd.

So, the film's not great, but for the standards of video game movies, it's certainly not awful either. Here's what it got right...
