Tommy Lee Jones Is General Douglas McArthur in Emperor

Lost star Matthew Fox leads as General Bonner Fellers, the man who must decide on whether Japan's wartime leader Emperor Hirohito should be hanged for war crimes in the days after WWII.

Tommy Lee Jones has been cast as General Douglas McArthur in Peter Webber's (The Girl With The Pearl Earring, Hannibal Rising) upcoming historical drama Emperor. Based on a true events, Emperor is a political thriller/love story set in the uncertain and tension filled days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. Lost star Matthew Fox leads as General Bonner Fellers, the man under McAthur's leadership who must decide on whether Japan's wartime leader Emperor Hirohito should be hanged for war crimes, but finds himself distracted by his ongoing search for the Japanese exchange student he fell in love with before the war back in the States. Tommy Lee Jones's role as Supreme Commander MacArthur is a key one as he helped the country rebuild after the mess of World War II and as he does to every movie he stars in, will bring an added sense of gravitas to the picture. Written by David Klass (Walking Tall, Kiss The Girls) and Vera Blasi (Woman on Top, Tortilla Flats), Emperor is described as an 'epic story of love and understanding'. Of the casting, Producer Gary Foster says;
€œTommy will bring strength, intelligence, and gravitas to the portrayal of General Douglas MacArthur, a legendary American hero.€
Filming begins this month in New Zealand and Japan and is a co-production between Fellers Film and Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment. source - variety
