4. Primer

Type of time travel: The near past Mode of transport: A box Primer was shot on a budget of $7,000 and managed to beat out The Woodsman and Garden State to win the 2004 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. Primer is an extremely complicated (some might say overly complicated) tale of time travel that Im happy to admit I still dont fully understand, but it is also an extremely enjoyable watch that allows you to revel in its complexities. The time travel element here is one that is intentionally more plausible and Shane Carruth makes certain that everything feels realistic, more so than any other film on this list. He also makes the paradoxes of time travel part of the complications at the centre of the storywhich is really about two best friends and their relationship break down. If they can get a remake of Timecrimes going, I wonder just how long it will be until this film gets a commercial remake as well.
