Top 10 Horror Films of the 21st Century

3. (2007)

is a Spanish horror film that came out of virtually nowhere, and made it clear that though the French are leading the pack as far as foreign horror goes, the Spaniards aren't slouches either. One of the best entries into the found footage subgenre, has virtually everything that a film of this type needs to succeed; believable characters, strong acting, plausible scenarios in which the camera would still be used, a frightening entity, and a powerful close. Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) is a TV show presenter, and she along with her cameraman are taking part in a ride-along with a local fire crew. They go to an apartment block, and are soon enough sealed inside one it becomes clear that some sort of a biological threat is contained within the walls. What follows is an extremely scary horror film, in which the various residents of the block are summarily picked off by the infected ones, and the fact that the group are prevented from leaving the block by the authorities only enhances the claustrophobic tension. The final 15 minutes of this film are among the scariest put to film; as Angela faces off against a horror greater than she could have imagined, you'll need nerves of steel to get through it in one piece.
