9. James Bond
You may not have realised Jimmy was an orphan but he is indeed. This might even explain his commitment issues with women. He just wants his mummy. No, not in that way . . . Background James was born to a Scottish weapons dealer and his Swiss wife who, unfortunately, both snuffed it rock-climbing in south-eastern France when James was 11. Afterwards he was raised by his aunt and then went on to two secondary schools, university and then the Ministry of Defence. The rest as they say . . . Importance of being orphaned Although you can't deny James is a rather famous fictional orphan his being without parents hasn't really played a huge part in his on-screen story. We may not have quite ended up with the same character if the Bonds had decided to have a nice day at the beach instead of rock climbing but there's no real on-going references to lost parents. The only argument you could forward is to say he has abandonment issues but this never really comes in to the films. Companions Although Q may come to mind there's no one who really joins Bond in the field and unless you want to count his women as a kind constant-yet-changing companion Bond is quite the solitary figure.
