5. Spider-Man
Peter Parker may have had a swell pair of foster parents to fall back on but even that goes wrong resulting in Petey being orphaned 1 and a half times. Poor bloke. Background Even in the new reboot of spider-man we're never really told how Peter's Parents met their end but according to the post credits scene we will find this out at some point. Anyway, after the disappearance of his parents the web-slinger is raised by his kindly Aunt May and Uncle Ben who are living pretty happily until Pete gets bitten by a radioactive criminal and Uncle Ben gets shot by a spider with a gun. That's right isn't it? Importance of being orphaned It depends on which film you watch. The reboot makes a much bigger deal of the absent parents in question than the previous trilogy. However in both the much more pivotal moment for Pete is the loss of his adoptive father, Ben, which turns him to a life of do-gooding and generally makes for a pivotal scene. By all indications this one will increase with the next film. Companions The women in Peter Parker's life are probably the closest thing to companions he has but he can't be said to lean or rely on May too much seeing as she's his old frail Aunt and MJ and Gwen are clear love interests. Harry Osborne doesn't really count either as he's not really the best mate in the original franchise and didn't even bother to turn up for the new one.
