Top 20 Movie Posters of 2012

20. The Master

I'll start the list off with this wonderfully simple teaser poster for The Master. This one really piqued my interest in the film when it was first released, encapsulating a simple metaphor of the cast members drowning in a rising sea of alcohol, which subsequently turned out to be a major plot point in the film itself. A beautiful, simple design. themaster1-2

19. Frankenweenie

This wonderful Tim Burton film released a whole series of these charming throwback character posters, designed to imitate old monster movie posters from the 1950's. The posters do a great job of recreating the iconic look and feel of those films while also featuring the characters from the actual film Frankenweenie itself. frankenweenie2

18. The Dark Knight Rises

Superhero movies always have an easy time with teaser posters, because superheroes have such strong, recognizable iconography to use in artwork. The Dark Knight Rises took a unique approach by showing us an icon destroyed - Batman's cracked mask. It successfully sold the notion that something really serious was going to happen in this installment. darkknightrises1-2

17. Flight

I am constantly struck by how little there actually is on this poster. It is truly a testament to the power of minimalism and simplicity - despite the fact that 99% of the poster is sky, it somehow still manages to capture the main theme of the film, of a small man finding himself alone in a big, empty world. flight2
