25. Frivolous Lola (1998)
Tinto Brass is always good for a prime piece of Eurosleaze, in fact, he has made a career out of it. Frivolous Lola is set in 1950s Italian countryside. It deals with Lola and Masetto - a couple whose views on sex before marriage differ considerably. The story is flimsy but what we get for our money are lots of salacious shots of Lola - knickerless, her lady bits, her bottom, her breasts. It is a lusty erotic comedy which appeals to many people out there (mainly men it has to be said). Harmless enough fluff from Brass.
24. The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)
This is quite a highly regarded little Eurosleaze gem from Spain brought to you by director Vicente Aranda. Susan, a new bride, feels nothing but sexual repulsion towards her husband, his high sex drive and his pervy ways. Her husband finds a woman buried on the beach and brings her home. Turns out she is Carmilla the vampire and she has seduced his wife into a lesbian relationship. Now he is in danger.. With a luscious gothic setting, The Blood Spattered Bride is one of the classier vampire movies to originate from the continent at this time. There is a palpable sense of dread and a morbid atmosphere. More nudity than gore, this is a terrific piece of lesbian vampire sleaze.
23. The Story of O (1975)
Another highly tasteful soft core effort from Just Jaecklin - this film is an adaptation from the book by Pauline Reage. Rene takes his lover O to a mansion where she is submitted to all kinds of perversions, bondage and humiliations to prove that she loves him. He then gives her over to Sir Stephen - his older step brother. They share her for a while but O falls in love with Sir Stephen. Jaecklin really has an eye for beauty, and you can see it in the composition of the scenes, the sets and the way the film is shot. It may deal with the submission of women but I doubt anyone but the most strident of feminists would object to the film, it is so tastefully shot and the storyline so well executed. Tie me up Scotty! (okay that was lame)
22. The Yellow Teddy Bears (1963)
Topical British sexploitation from the early 1960s. A group of schoolgirls wear yellow teddy bears in their front pocket to signify they have lost their virginity. Head of the clique - Linda - fears she might be pregnant to her wanna be pop star boyfriend Kinky. She has a bit if an agonising time of it. Meanwhile a teacher has cottoned on to the clique's capers.. Once considered very shocking, it is good fun to have a titter at an old so-called saucy film. Actually with the 'Am I pregnant.' storyline, the film sinks more into good old kitchen sink territory -which I quite enjoy but lovers of smut may find quite dreary.
21. Don't Deliver Us From Evil (1971)
Promoted as "The French Film Banned in France!", Joel Seria's tale of two adolescent girls descent into Satanism and extreme bad behaviour has a lot to live up to. It is an almost arty, serene meditation on how two girls cope with holiday time boredom and the restraints of the Catholic church. Their games start out as simple fun, discovery of their sexuality and then degenerate into extreme cruelty to animals, arson, black masses and murder. I had waited for this title to be rediscovered for years and I was thrilled when it finally got the region 1 treatment. I wasn't disappointed. It is quite a classy movie and definitely a cult curio.
