Many of Pixar's short films are alluded to throughout the film, most notably Pixar's third ever short, Tin Toy, which premiered in 1988 and won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

Tin Toy's protagonist, Tinny, greets Woody and Bo when they enter the pinball machine and Bo even address him by name, while when Buzz is trapped on the fairground game, yellow-red stickers on many of the prizes bare the same colour scheme and pattern as the ball in Pixar's first ever short, Luxo Jr.

Elsewhere, Woody mistakenly refers to one of Bo Peep's sheep as "Gus", likely a nod to the protagonist of the same name from Pixar's 2009 short Partly Cloudy.

Finally, the chessboard from the 1997 Oscar-winning short Geri's Game is visible in the antique shop, as well as a picture of Geri behind the till (seeming to imply he's related to the store's elderly owner).
