Trailer: Alexander Payne's THE DESCENDANTS Starring George Clooney

You wait seven years for a sign of Alexander Payne's next project - his first since Sideways - and then two reveals are made in quick succession. Following on from the poster shown off earlier this week, Fox Searchlight have now given The Descendants its first full-length trailer, which you can watch below. The film, which is based on the book of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings, stars George Clooney as a father struggling to connect with his kids after his wife (Judy Greer) slips into a coma. Things are complicated however when Clooney discovers that his wife had been having an affair. From the looks of the trailer, it seems the film will centre around his character conflicted between being there for his seemingly wayward kids and looking into his wife's indiscretion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9MHI43cCkk Payne's track record so far - with the exception of his screenplay for Jurassic Park 3 - leads me to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, there is something oddly conventional about the above trailer. Could this be a modern classic in the making or a retread of every indie "soul-searching" movie of the last ten years? Let us know your thoughts below.
