20th Century Fox have debuted a second trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the movie that tells the story of how the ape uprising began. James Franco stars as the ambitious scientist responsible for the genetically modified apes, Andy Serkis motion caps the leading ape Caesar with support provided by Frieda Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Tom Felton. Similar to X-Men: First Class the movie looks to toy the line between a prequel to what has come before and a complete reboot of the series and I imagine your reaction to the trailer will come down to what you think of CGI apes. Personally - although the special effects do look spectacular in some shots, it never feels consistent and the apes sometimes look like they belong to a video game. And honestly in the end no matter how cool they look, I'm always going to fall down on the side of men in make-up. Sigh.

Rupert Wyatt directs the August 5th blockbuster which I'm happy to say looks like it has a good dose of science fiction with socio-political and morality questions thrown in there for good measure and let's not forget that's why this series is so enduring.
