Trailer: THE DEBT; High caliber Nazi-chase thriller with mighty talent behind it

Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren & Tom Wilkinson star in a fictional Nazi war criminal chase thriller.

UPDATE: Disney have informed me The Debt is opening in the U.K. on Feb 11th, 2011 - which although it's only six weeks after the Dec. 29th U.S. date - just feels SOOOO far away. As soon as I heard Matt Vaughn and Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Stardust) had scripted The Debt (Miramax, Dec), I knew I would be into this. The trailer for the remake of the 2007 Israeli film of the same name has just gone online and it promises to be a high caliber, thinking man's thriller and despite the odd niggle (I'm not into the time expansion gimmick - feels like the movie is trying to have it's cake and eat it, which I suppose is actually quite a large niggle) - my ticket for this is already assured. I mean come on - who isn't into a Nazi war criminal chase movie, with the slimy Bond villain Jesper Christensen as a fictional Adolf Eichmann-esque figure, a murderous doctor known as The Surgeon! Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson, Ciaran Hinds. These guys don't work on mediocre stuff and although Sam Worthington looks even more out of his depth here than he does in fantasy tentpoles, and once again his accent and line delivery is something of a bothersome to me, the talent on show will suck you into this. Director John Madden has a dodgy CV in this genre (Killshot), but from the trailer at least, I got into what he has done with this. I'm counting on The Debt to be a good send off to the year when it opens Dec. 29th.
