3. There's A Radical Anti-Technology Group Called RIFT
Dr. Caster's transcendence is initially caused by a "radical anti-technology group" called RIFT, who attempt to assassinate him using radiation-laced bullets and attack computer labs all over the country. Considering what Will says about the possibility of artificial intelligence's potential, it's no surprise that activists may be a bit scared of such a technological power: "Imagine a machine with a full range of emotion. Its analytical power will be greater than the collective intelligence of every person in the history of the world." We're given brief glimpses of how Will's transcendence begins to get out of control, and it appears that Paul Bettany's character switches sides and begins to work with RIFT (which I'm sure Kate Mara's character is a part of) in order to stop him.
