Transformers 4: 10 Things That Sucked

6. Ridiculously Obvious Product Placement

Transformers Age Of Extinction1Paramount PicturesMichael Bay's movies make a ton of money, and as such it's little surprise that there's a massive queue of successful companies waiting in line to sponsor them, getting their product front and center of the director's epic action extravaganza. Bay's films are frequently derided for their ridiculously blatant product placement, though the term takes on an entirely new meaning here, as Bay clearly doesn't care one bit about trying to carefully massage these promotions into the movie in a sly and subtle way. Some of the more egregious placements include Transformium being used to make a Beats bluetooth speaker, Stanley Tucci's engineer character drinking a Chinese milk drink of some kind, a Transformer being exploded right in front of a Victoria's Secret ad, and a hilarious scene in which Mark Wahlberg's protagonist crashes into a Bud Light truck. Marky Mark has a confrontation with the driver, at which point Wahlberg picks up a bottle of the sudsy refreshment and chugs it. It's so shameless that it almost becomes an acceptable moment, a self-mocking bout of commercialism that would make Wayne and Garth themselves proud.
