Uncool Stuff: TRON's Blu-ray Cover Art

We've been running a Cool Stuff feature on and off at OWF over the past four years and I guess it's main aim is to always point out something geeky, interesting or just plain cool in relation to film that has impressed us. Usually the feature will be filled by products, original artwork or posters, but we are not discriminative against anything. Today, however, I bring you the very first entry into the new, hopefully infrequent 'Uncool Stuff' feature - the category that no product, etc, wants to find itself in.The HD Room (via /film) this week got a reported first look glimpse at the 'likely' artwork for the original Tron's Blu-ray transfer (which rumour has it is to be released this Spring to coincide with Tron Legacy's Blu-ray release), which well, is as out-dated as the early 80's film itself. Were Disney going for nostalgia here or is The Mouse really this clueless over how to market a film nearly thirty years old? You tell me... Looking like the cover to a Mega Drive or Master System Computer Game from decades past, Tron's reported cover must surely be a joke? Are they really expecting a 11-24 year old who isn't aware of Tron to be interested in picking up a Blu-ray that looks like that? I mean hell, couldn't they have done something special with the visual imagery of the original that could easily be upgraded into something more, well, appealing. And hell, what was wrong with the original poster anyway which would stand-out on a shelf if you were browsing from yards and yards away. As you can see from the reported blu-ray cover, Tron's high-def transfer will be a Special Edition and will come packed with the standard DVD Disc. HD Room say - "Disney is taking this catalog release seriously and is expected to be packing it with multiple hours worth of bonus features, some of which are all-new." There's no word yet if the forthcoming blu-ray release of Tron will be available as a stand-alone purchase or whether Disney will be forcing you to purchase both if you want the original. Uncool Stuff:A regular feature at OWF showcasing a product, film or basically something UNCOOL which we think is interesting, informative and/or fun. If you have any ideas for this feature, make sure you e-mail us!
