Romy and Michele's High School Reunion may be a bonafide cult classic, but the 1997 comedy was also a box office flop on original release, grossing just $29.2 million against its $20 million budget, even while starring Friends A-lister Lisa Kudrow and then-recent Oscar winner Mira Sorvino.
While the film has been a consistently strong performer on home video, Sorvino's 2024 claim that a sequel was finally happening was tough to believe, and even as recently as early 2026, Kudrow didn't seem sure it would be going ahead.
But back in June the sequel - tentatively titled Romy and Michele 2 - was surprisingly confirmed to have begun filming, with Kudrow and Sorvino being joined by other returning cast members Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, and Julia Campbell.
Rather than going the theatrical route, the sequel will be released direct to streaming service Hulu, which makes sense given the original's firm cult status.
