19. Zack Snyder's Escape from New York
A remake of John Carpenter's classic Kurt Russell-starring action-thriller Escape from New York has been in the works since 2007, with Gerard Butler originally attached to star as Russell's grizzled hero Snake Plissken.
Yet this and numerous other versions of the remake fell through, until this past June when it was confirmed that the new Escape from New York will be written and directed by none other than Zack Snyder.
Even accepting that Snyder has his cult of loyal fans, there are few actively angling for a filmmaker as inconsistent - to be kind - as Snyder to tackle a remake of a movie as beloved as this.
Given that Snyder's last four films - Army of the Dead, the Rebel Moon duology, and The Last Photograph - have been varying flavours of mediocre-to-terrible, why expect any different here?
There's absolutely an Escape from New York remake that could work - perhaps if directed by someone like Gareth Evans or Timo Tjahjanto - but with Snyder at the helm, it'll be difficult for all but his most die-hard devotees to have even a flicker of optimism.
