20 Announced Movies NOBODY Asked For

It was probably just a matter of time before a property as iconic as Free Willy got dusted off for another go-around, and indeed, the classic 1993 family drama about the bond between a young boy and a captive orca was recently confirmed for the "reimagining" treatment.

Avengers filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo will produce this new take on Free Willy under their AGBO production banner, alongside original producer Lauren Shuler Donner. Jade Halley Bartlett (Miller's Girl) will write the script.

As much of a hit as Free Willy was three decades ago, it isn't exactly a movie that's talked about extensively anymore. 

Younger audiences don't seem to have much of a connection to it and older viewers who grew up with the original don't seem much enthusiastic about this announcement, so who is it for exactly?

Couple this with the logistical challenges of making the movie in 2026, where animal welfare is thankfully a far greater concern in Hollywood, and Free Willy should probably just be left where it is.
