Venom: 18 Easter Eggs & References Explained

1. "Meanwhile, In Another Universe..."

Miles Morales Spider-Man Into Spider-Verse
Sony

Venom's post-credits tag is actually a lengthy sequence from Sony's fantastic-looking upcoming animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the scene opens with the colourful, comic book-homaging tagline, "Meanwhile, in another universe..."

This is obviously the movie tipping its hat to the fact that this Spider-Man movie exists within a different continuity to the Venom film, while cheekily referencing the fact they're both Sony productions, and given the universe-uniting plot of the animated film, Venom is basically another disparate universe existing out there somewhere.

There were pre-release rumours that Venom might feature a cameo from Tom Holland's Peter Parker or Hardy's Venom could even end up appearing in Into the Spider-Verse, but everything so far points to Venom being a strictly standalone offering. That's probably the smart thing, to be honest.
