1. The Mediocre Action Sequences

The film packs a decent amount of action into its brief runtime, though sadly little of it is of any real substance.

While not as messily generic as the digital mayhem from the first film, there's basically nothing here likely to stick with audiences, instead blurring into a forgettable sludge of utterly mediocre VFX-driven chaos.

The final fight is especially underwhelming, lacking the energy and creativity you might hope for during a clash between two iconic comic book characters.

On the whole there isn't much inventiveness or kineticism to the action, which is especially disappointing given Serkis' background in VFX and the heightened ingenuity fans hoped he would bring to the table. The action is at least less of an amorphous eyesore than in the previous film.

These major gripes accepted, though, here's what Venom 2 gets right...
