Venom: Let There Be Carnage Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs
4. Tom Hardy's Performance Carries The Movie
This franchise categorically doesn't deserve Tom Hardy, an actor so wildly over-qualified for the task that it isn't even funny.
But Hardy, ever the pro, commits whole-heartedly to the shtick, making the absolute most of the Eddie/Venom dynamic, as is by far the most entertaining part of the entire movie.
Hardy gives a deeply physical performance and spends large chunks of the film effectively acting against nobody, given that Venom is of course a VFX element.
Yet Hardy does a great job maintaining the illusion throughout, ripping through the outrageous one-liners with a sure enthusiasm as both Eddie and Venom, and again confirming his wildly under-appreciated comic timing.
With a less-skilled actor at the helm, these films wouldn't be nearly as easy to tolerate, so thanks for your service Tom.
