Venom Trailer 2 Reactions: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

6. Tom Hardy's Dodgy Accent

The first trailer already had a lot of people raising their eyebrows at Tom Hardy's, uh, "questionable" New York accent, and the second trailer even more so.

Hardy's a world-class actor beyond any doubt, so it's hard to see quite what he's going for here. The accent feels amusingly over-affected every time he speaks, and there's never a moment where it seems natural or believable.

Fingers crossed the New York accent has some sort of explanation, at least, considering that the bulk of the story appears to take place in San Francisco (where Eddie Brock is traditionally from). Either way, if Hardy's weird accent is as distracting as this in the final movie, it could present a real obstacle to audiences actually taking his performance seriously.

Considering how excited people were when an actor of Hardy's calibre and physical stature was cast as Brock, it's a bit of a shame how lukewarm his work seems so far.
