Ving Rhames & Rosamund Pike in THE SURROGATES

Both type-cast actors join Jonathan Mostow's sci-fi thriller to be led by Bruce Willis.

Sexy British actress and former Bond villain Rosamund Pike may be pigeon-holed as the "obligatory love interest" role with a part as under-written as a Michael Bay movie if she's not careful. It's those roles where you are just invisible on screen and they are the worst for an actress. It happened to her both in Pride & Prejudice and certainly in Fracture, a role I would have never taken in a million years taken. Now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that the actress has joined the upcoming Jonathan Mostow sci-fi thriller The Surrogates, as the wife to Bruce Willis' character. Hopefully she ain't destined for the vacant wife role.

The story is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves. Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others€™ surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy.
Radha Mitchell was cast last week as the cop partner to Willis and character actor Ned Vaughn has an unknown role in the movie. Today also brings the news that Ving Rhames is on board, someone no stranger to type-casting himself. He joins the movie as a charismatic cult figure who disdains the use of surrogates and tries to lead an uprising against the "new world order." Movie does sound pretty cool I must admit. Mostow is a mediocre director at best - cluttered as hell at worst. Shooting begins at the end of the month for a November release and we remain hopeful.
