War Machine Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

Ups...

4. Brad Pitt's Entertainingly Bonkers Performance

War Machine Brad Pitt
Netflix

Say what you will about the movie, but Brad Pitt hurls himself completely into the central role as the cartoonish but well-meaning and unexpectedly likeable General.

With his gruff voice, bizarre facial expressions and grey head of hair, this is Pitt's most outlandish performance in quite some time, and while it threatens to become too much on occasion, he just about lands on the right side of goofball.

His motives however remain fairly ambiguous by film's end, which helps emphasise the overall foggy nature of war. Pitt's peculiarly mannered turn may not work for all tastes, but if you're not able to laugh at McMahon's ridiculous jogging stance, which quickly becomes a running gag throughout the film, then there's probably something wrong with you.
