Warner Bros. made to order

Warner Bros. have seen the future, and it's an on-demand mail order and download DVD service. The studio are aiming to make available over 5,000 films available to order on demand, which will be manufactured by the studio and sent out and recieved by the customer in seven days, in shrink-wrapped plastic cases identical to those of commercial DVDs, with fully rendered commercial art and everything! They will be priced at $19.95 (so it's U.S. only, naturally) or alternatively, the service also allows the ability to downloaded directly to their computers for $15. Around 3/4's of these titles have never before been released on DVD. nrnrnnrnr The service officially opens today at The Warner Archive Collection and the highlights of the initial slate of 150 flicks include Cary Grant's 1943 comedy Mr. Lucky and 1962's All Fall Down with Warren Beatty and Eva Marie Saint. Even Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez's 1986 movie The Wisdom, is included. 20 or more classic films and TV shows will be added each month...

"Our goal is to eventually open up our entire vault," Feltenstein says. "We've been working on this for three years. I've always said it would be great if people could buy anything in our library, and now the time has come, because the technology finally exists."
Sadly, a movie I have long wanted to see released on DVD, the Maxwell Shane directed and Edward G. Robinson starring film noir Nightmare (1956) is a United Artists property and remains locked away in a vault somewhere. Poor Edward, will someone awaken him from his endless slumber? nightmareff337a82sl8
