Warner Bros. pick up Tautou's COCO CHANEL biopic

Much anticipated French production will begin filming on September 15th in Paris.

15 months since French actress Audrey Tautou was cast in the Coco Chanel biopic and finally the movie has found the neccessary financial backing to push forward and it has today secured a firm shoot date. Warner Bros. have boarded Anne Fontaine's movie which will begin filming in Paris on September 15th for 12 weeks.

It's based on the Chanel biography "L'Irreguliere" (The Nonconformist) by Edmonde Charles-Roux. The film will feature dresses from the Chanel collection. Karl Lagerfeld, art director of the House of Chanel, will supervise the re-creation of costumes and accessories.
Goal actor Alessandro Nivola has been attached for a while to play Arthur Capel, the wealthy aristorcat who finance Chanel's fashion designing and her often expensive tastes. He has spent several months learning French for the role. Tautou, who has become something of a fashion icon herself, seems perfect to play Chanel and I dare say this is one French pic that will get huge worldwide play when it's released, probably the later half of 2009. source - variety
