Watch Me While I Kill: Top 20 Italian Giallo Films

9. Tenebrae (1982)

te Another Argento masterpiece, Tenebrae also has the distinction of being a banned video nasty. What it is doing on the nasty list, heavens only knows, it is head and shoulders above the films on that list. It was originally widely panned by the critics but has since undergone a restoration of reputation. An American horror writer - Peter - is being hounded by a serial killer who claims he is influenced by his books. A lot of murders are occurring. Peter goes to investigate a possible suspect's house with his young assistant Gianni. Gianni watches the suspect get killed by an axe. Is it all over? Of course not... Wait for a big shock ending. Arguably one of the most lurid of Dario Argento's films (the sexually promiscuous shoplifter and the lesbians), the story telling in Tenebrae is highly sensationalised but at the same time terrific fun to watch. Visually very stylish (as one would expect from Argento) and with a great score, if you have missed this one, I can highly recommend it.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
