Watch Me While I Kill: Top 20 Italian Giallo Films

4. What Have You Done To Solange? (1971)

solange An absolute cracker of a Giallo. I adore this film and it sadly lacks a decent UK release at the moment (Shameless, please! I'm begging you!). This was my introduction to Giallo on the Bravo Channel on SKY in the late 1990s when it used to be a really good channel. Basically, a professor at an exclusive girl's school in London enjoys the sexual favours of his students until they start showing up dead... Ennio Morricone's score is truly beautiful and haunting. The film unfolds at a leisurely pace which caused some critics to accuse it of being too slow. They don't throw that accusation at Argento and his films are similarly paced. The director - Massimo Dallamano - is a very good one, having proved his skill with Venus in Furs, and after Solange he went on to more school girl chicanery with similarly titled What Have They Done To Your Daughters? Over the years, I am pleased to say, What Have You Done To Solange? has gained a reputation among Giallo fans as being one of the very best. So I am not alone in my odd tastes!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
