Woody Allen's latest movie
Cassandra's Dream has finally been picked up at Cannes but just like
Scoop, it won't see the light of day in the U.K. even though it is set in London!
Variety are reporting that the Weinsteins have picked up the film and will distribute it to the U.S., Australia and New Zealand markets. So unless another studio comes and snaps up the U.K. rights then our only way of seeing it will be to import a foreign DVD. Allen himself spoke to the trade, almost admitting that it's going to be a financial failure...
Harvey Weinstein is "one of the only producers-distributors around who actually can see beyond the grosses and gets real pleasure out of presenting fine movies," Allen said."
Cassandra's Dream stars two Brits and an Irishman (
Colin Farrell,
Ewan McGregor and
Tom Wilkinson) which makes the decision not to pick up the U.K. rights even stranger, not to mention that Allen's films usually go down better with European audiences.
