What Does The Ending Of Doctor Strange Really Mean?

7. The Multi-Verse Is Open

One of the biggest reasons for Doctor Strange's importance lies in the fact that it opens up the cosmic arm of the MCU and shepherds in another multitude of stories that can be adapted for the MCU (and the Netflix shows, though that's far less likely). So far, most of the MCU's films have resisted the call to supernatural, preferring instead to stay closer to reality and a grounded narrative. Well, as grounded as you can get with a Norse God and a giant green monster man, anyway.

Now, with the multiverse open for business, we can start to see more outlandish stories and more outlandish characters. There's no reason why the likes of Ghost Rider or Blade couldn't come in, or why alternate versions of established MCU characters couldn't come in (possibly as long-term replacements for outgoing actors). It really does open up a lot of possibilities.

Will we see Ant-Man go back to the Quantum Realm? Could Captain America end up being "assassinated" and sent between universes and time? Might Red Skull return from some alternate universe? It almost doesn't matter if any of that happens - what matters is that they now all COULD happen. And that's very exciting.
