What If...Kevin Smith's Superman Movie Got Made
Can we honestly say the Superman movies that actually got made are worse?
Introducing the first in a new article series at WhatCulture, What If... aims to remind us of the projects and events in cinema thatjust might have happened if the circumstances had been a little different.
First up? In the mid-to-late 90s, Kevin Smith was approached to write the script for a new Superman project which he tentatively titled Superman Lives, though as Smith has told fans first-hand on his various "An Evening With..." interviews, his acrimonious relationship with eccentric producer Jon Peters played a part in the film never happening. Peters wanted an all-black suit for Supes, no flight, and a giant spider in the climactic set-piece, something which eventually went into another film he produced, Wild Wild West (and we all know how that turned out).
On top of this, he wanted a fight between Brainiac and a bunch of polar bears at the Fortress of Solitude, and for Lex Luthor to have a cute space-dog that could be merchandised to Hell.
It didn't happen for countless reasons in the end, though if it had, here's 10 things that would almost definitely have happened, at least at the time.
