What Was Really Inside The Briefcase In Pulp Fiction
1. Anything You Want It To Be
Whatever item you most think fits, the idea of the contents being ‘whatever you want them to be’ maybe rings more true than first given credit for. Instead of the briefcase being a simple plot MacGuffin, it could actually be that what’s inside is exactly what each character wants it to be.
A case full of hard drugs for the heroin-addicted Vincent, or gold for the hold-up obsessed Pumpkin, perhaps. It's been suggested that enlightenment itself is what the Biblically badass Jules could bear witness to, knowing the power of what's inside the case and recognising its ability to morph to each of its onlookers.
The supernatural glow and its mysterious contents could easily transform for each character into what they most desire - making Tarantino’s open-ended descriptions outside of the movie a lot more specific than it would first seem. Maybe he isn't being so secretive after all.
