What Your Favourite Judd Apatow Movie Says About You

3. Funny People (2009)

The Movie: Funny People had a harder time connecting with audiences and for good reason. It wasn't as mainstream as Apatow's previous efforts and asked us to sympathize with a man who seemed to have it all. Adam Sandler's George Simmons is a comedian/ movie star who finds out he's dying and decides to go after the only woman he really loved years before with the help of a young comedian portrayed by Seth Rogen who willingly takes George's verbal abuse. Funny People was really about the struggle of the artist, balancing art with life. Simmons fails in such a quest and ends up as a lonely man with everything except what he really wants. Rogen's character seems doomed for the same road until he follows Simmons on his journey. What It Says About You: First, you're probably an artist: a comedian, writer, actor, whatever. You probably identified with Simmons' loneliness and Rogen's idealism and endless struggle both personally and financially. Second, you may have that love interest in the past that sometimes crosses your mind. You think they'll fill that void. Use Funny People as a warning. Or maybe you just like Seth Rogen and like watching stand up comedy.
