What Your Favourite Martin Scorsese Movie Says About You

Gangs of New Yorkleonardo_di_caprio_f_032The Movie: Amsterdam Vallon returns to Five Points district of New York City in 1863 to avenge the murder of his father that occurred as a result of a gang encounter. However, the anti-immigrant American patriot considered responsible for the murder, Bill Cutting, also happens to be the city's primary gang leader. Clashes abound and body parts get chopped off as, ironically enough, peace is sought to be restored. What It Says About You: You were probably once the cliquey type in high school or otherwise. You've enjoyed getting a rise out of people and having the opportunity to prove yourself, especially in a public realm. No matter whether or not you face a need to present such validation of yourself to your own self-evaluation or to others around you, any potential opportunity to do so is not worth passing up. Favorite Movies: There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James, and 3:10 to Yuma all maintain the "classic" sort of vibe regarding each one's relative genre that Gangs of New York exudes within its employed generic conventions and its blunt thematic notes of American patriotism. Soundbite: This is a movie about divides, and within that theme, of pride. In an almost Shakespeare-like attitude of pride, revenge, and sociological struggle, Amsterdam Vallon asserts, "When you kill a king, you don't stab him in the dark. You kill him where the entire court can watch him die." Though Gangs of New York involves a disturbing amount and fashion of violence, this line is both chilling and thrilling on its own.
