Which Actress Will Join Gambit As The Female Lead?

Trio of actresses at the top of Fox's wish-list for comic-book spin-off.

With Channing Tatum now properly locked-in for the title role, 20th Century Fox and director Rupert Wyatt are turning their attention to Gambit's supporting cast. First up appears to be the film's female lead, Bella Boudreaux. Deadline is indicating that Rebecca Ferguson, Lea Seydoux and Abby Lee are all being seriously considered for the part. Each is having a big 2015; Lee for her work in Mad Max: Fury Road, Rebecca Ferguson for slapping around Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Seydoux with the upcoming Bond outing Spectre. Bella not only holds the key to Gambit's heart, but she's also a tough cookie in her own right. A thief and assassin, the part requires steal, beauty and we'd assume the capacity to form a deep, but damaged bond with her beau.
All three actresses sound like stellar choices, with Ferguson probably pipping the post for me. Her embodiment of a sleek old school-temptress and physically capable action heroine made for one of Rogue Nation's most exciting elements. If you can steal scenes from Cruise, Tatum should be a piece of cake. Of course, upon re-visitation of Fury Road or first exposure to Spectre, that opinion might change. All three performers are top tier picks, and confidently suggest that Fox and Wyatt intend for Bella to take names, kick-ass and hold the leading man to proper account. She won't be a push-over anyway.
