Who Is Spider-Man: Far From Home's Mystery Hero?

1. Doctor Strange

Marvel Studios

Doctor Strange might be a bit of dustcicle at the moment as well, but he has a whole lot more in common with the wall-crawler than fans would perhaps think.

One of the most interesting things about Infinity War was the dynamic shared between Tony Stark and Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange. The man of science meeting the man of magic provided one of the most refreshing dynamics in the film, with both leaders butting against each other on account of their preeminence in their given field.

Peter, at the time, was caught somewhat in the middle - but he still displayed a certain admiration for the Sorcerer Supreme. It's a world he's unfamiliar with, but willing to explore all the same. And with Cumberbatch's character one of the more likely choices to take over as a leading Marvel figure in the wake of Downey Jr.'s impending departure, having him pair with Peter would actually make a whole lot of sense.

There's more though. Mysterio is an illusionist who prides himself on his ability to manipulate and deceive; he's pretty much the antithesis of Strange, who engages with the mystic arts in order to protect the very fabric of existence. Throw in all the talk of alternate dimensions, Peter being thrust out of his comfort zone again and Mysterio's skills contrasting greatly with Strange's, and you have the set-up for the perfect Spidey team-up.

That is, if Cumberbatch actually returns...

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
