Why Furiosa Just Flopped

1. 2024 Has Been A Terrible Year For The Box Office

And finally, it's impossible to ignore the fact that 2024 has been an historically awful year for the box office so far, and it's clear that audiences en masse just can't be enticed to leave their homes for many movies these days.

Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, and Kung Fu Panda 4 are the only blockbusters to have turned a serious profit so far, and outside of Deadpool and Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Despicable Me 4, the rest of the year is looking pretty bleak.

And so, on top of all the above factors, we must consider that Furiosa is just another tentpole film audiences are largely going to wait to watch at home, if at all.

With streaming windows now shrunk down to rarely more than six weeks, and a bleak global economy forcing many to carefully manage their spending, it's little surprise that Furiosa - a film which categorically failed to market itself as a must-see event - has joined the growing heap of box office flops.

It certainly paints a worrying picture for Hollywood moving forward, that outside of the biggest event films imaginable, the average consumer just can't be enticed to the cinema, not even by sheer quality.
