Why Marvel NEED To Hire Lord & Miller To Direct Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

They've got old business to settle...

The news that James Gunn's past conduct on Twitter has got him fired from his job at the heart of the MCU is a devastating blow for the Guardians Of The Galaxy series (and for the future plans to expand the cosmic arm of the MCU under his guidance). But it was necessary, given that the content of the jokes gave Disney absolutely no choice.

So the question now is who Marvel should hire.

There are a couple of immediately relevant candidates. Brad Bird sticks out a mile after his success with The Incredibles 2 (though he might be a little wholesome for Guardians movies, ironically). The Russos would be dependable replacements, since they know the MCU, though they might need a rest after Avengers 4. And there is likely to be a big movement for Marvel to hire Taika Waititi to step in after he made Thor: Ragnarok in a way that suggested he might be a fan of Guardians movies anyway.

But there are two candidates who everyone should be immediately getting behind. It's just a shame that their history with Disney - or more specifically LucasFilm - might make their chances a little slim.

Marvel could do an awful lot worse than asking Chris Miller and Phil Lord - who were previously fired from Solo - to take over from Gunn and guide Guardians to the end of their story. They proved on The LEGO Movie and 22 Jump Street that they can handle the kind of material you'd expect from Star-Lord and his crew and there's an infectious charm to their work that absolutely fits.

The fact that they've also worked with Chris Pratt before should also count for something too.

Let's hope that their experience with LucasFilm wouldn't rule them out, because the idea of them bringing their improvisation-heavy approach to film-making to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 is irresistible. Hopefully, Pratt has already been on the phone to them...
