Why Marvel Would Be MAD To Kill Off Thor In Avengers 4
2. We Need Another Taika Waititi Movie
What Taika Waititi did with Thor: Ragnarok is nothing short of brilliant. Even with his wings clipped a little bit (thanks to the MCU's still quite tight restrictions on freedom of expression), he made a good go of putting his own stamp on the material. In effect, he did what James Gunn did with the first Guardians movie - he paid his dues while also showing off what he could do if he was given even a little more freedom to express himself.
Essentially, Waititi needs a second MCU movie so he can do what Gunn and the Russos did so well - dialling up his personal touches and letting his fundamentally Waititiness come out even more. Given how brilliantly the moments that felt the most like his (the Korg and Miek moments particularly) were, the prospect of him being let off the leash for a fourth Thor movie is just glorious.
Sure, he could probably take on Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 in place of James Gunn, but that's a poisoned chalice right there and there might be other properties he could look at, but it wouldn't be the same. By Chris Hemsworth's own admission, Waititi did a lot to "rescue" and reinvigorate Thor as a character and he should be allowed to run with that even more.
