Will James Gunn Direct Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 After All?

Apparently he's set to meet with Disney soon.

It seems as though every other day there's a new development in the James Gunn/Guardians of the Galaxy 3 debacle, and hot off the heels of the main cast releasing an open letter to Disney in support of their former director, it looks like the House of Mouse could be considering rehiring the filmmaker after all. In fact, according to Skyler Shuler on Twitter, the editor-in-chief at The DisInsider, Disney are intending to hold meetings with Gunn in the coming days.

The director was initially fired after bunch of his old tweets resurfaced late last month, mostly made up of ill-advised jokes regarding rape, pedophilia and the holocaust. It's not the first time his Twitter history has been a source of contention, and Gunn had already apologised for his behaviour years ago in an attempt to put that part of his life behind him.

Thanks to the age of the tweets as well as his two apologies, a vocal movement of people who thought the firing was a knee-jerk reaction have since petitioned to get the director reinstated, launching a campaign which, at the time of writing, has acquired over 350,000 signatures. Considering he was integral to the success of both Guardians movies, it makes sense that Disney are considering all their options, and there's a good chance the director could be back on board sooner rather than later.
