Wonder Woman 1984 has been through its fair share of release dates at this point, but with the world slowly beginning to return to normal, the hope is that the DC Comics adaptation will finally arrive in cinemas this October. A Digital release was briefly considered by Warner Bros., but unless Tenet completely bombs (and it just might), the studio is sticking with a theatrical debut.

It's been over two years since journalists were given the opportunity to visit the set of Patty Jenkins' movie, but the embargo has finally lifted, and a tonne of exciting new details about Wonder Woman 1984 have been revealed in the process.

Over the past six months or so, the marketing campaign has slowed to a crawl, and while there's been an occasional leak, it's been a long time since any major new details have found their way online. Well, that's all changed thanks to these set reports, and the cast and crew have addressed everything from Steve Trevor's return to the Invisible Jet and Cheetah's transformation.

There's even an explanation for why Wonder Woman 1984 is set before the events of Justice League, and Jenkins even shares some intriguing hints about her plans for Wonder Woman 3...

10. Why Wonder Woman 1984 Was Always Set Before Justice League

Wonder Woman 1984 is set in, well, 1984. That puts it a long time before the events of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and the fact the sequel is going back to the past frustrated fans who wanted to see Diana Prince's story continue in the present day.

"[She] just became Wonder Woman in the first movie, so I kind of want a much more solo movie, and as soon as you go current day, you really have to deal with all the other heroes," Jenkins explains. "So I was like, 'We need a movie about Wonder Woman, now on this world.' So that was the leading thing is I was like, 'We got to see Wonder Woman before we ever get into all the other guys at the same time.'"

Aquaman managed without cameos from the likes of Batman and the Flash, so this still feels like something of a missed opportunity. Still, it means the filmmaker had a clean slate to continue Wonder Woman's story, even if a story set in the past does create a whole host of continuity issues!
