Does Wonder Woman 1984 stand a chance of besting its predecessor?

Back in 2017, Wonder Woman wielded her golden lasso and steered the DC Extended Universe into safer territory. A blockbuster that still managed to take the world by surprise, its unexpected success wasn't a reflection on how low our hopes were for this specific film, but how low our expectations were for the DCEU in general (given the failings of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad), and it was that unexpected success that allowed it to save its own universe.

A triumph in every sense of the word, Wonder Woman instilled audiences with hope - doing the same for the DCEU in the process - ensuring that Diana Prince's big-screen solo debut was worth the decades-long wait while also busting the long-standing myth that female-driven superhero movies were incapable of major success.

But can it do it all again? The follow-up, Wonder Woman 1984, does feature many of the same ingredients that worked the first time around, from returning stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine to director Patty Jenkins, but will it have the same timeless punch?
